BioTen years ago my parents looked like God. Flames engulfing everything around them, they stood tall and fast. I hid, like the ignorant insufferable worm that I am. Black shadows with white faces, that only now do I understand were people, crowded the flaming figures of my holy host. The only gods I'll ever know.
Once, ten years before now, my name was Terran Boot. Orphaned at seven, I became Terry. I think I'm worse off than even Harry Potter. He, at least, never knew the joys of family. Like a man born blind knows not the color blue. I'm seventeen and my life is a vast salt flat: no water, just drought.
Ah, peripheries will be the death of me.
